Six measurements, taken twice, decide how a piece sits. Ten minutes with a soft tape now is what stops a wig ever feeling like one.
Accurate measurements are key for comfort and a natural fit. Use a soft measuring tape and measure over your natural hair (or as flat as possible if you have thick hair). Take all measurements in inches.
Taking the six measurements
- Circumference — Place the tape at your front hairline, run it behind your ear, down to the nape, behind the other ear, and back to the front hairline.
- Front to nape — Start at your front hairline, run the tape over the crown, and stop at the base of your skull.
- Ear to ear (over top) — Measure from the top edge of one ear, across the crown, to the top edge of the opposite ear.
- Ear to ear (across forehead) — Measure from the hairline edge above one ear, across the forehead, to the other ear.
- Temple to temple (around back) — From one temple, around the back of your head, to the opposite temple.
- Nape width — Measure the width at the base of your hairline at the nape.
Tip: take each measurement twice for accuracy, and round up to the nearest 1/8″.
